The Equitable Futures Work continues.

Celebrating Equitable Futures Week

From April 1-7, 2019, communities and groups around the world developed local images of a more equitable future, creating the building blocks that can lead to real change and to help  challenge dominant ideas around what kind of society is possible.

Equitable Futures Week was a week of globally distributed social reimagining produced
by IFTF and supported by Blue Shield of California Foundation. Download the toolkit and organize a local visioning + action session to uncover new social fictions and move toward local impact.

Whether you’re a teacher, a social change-maker, a policy maker, or a futurist;
don’t let your future be left out!

2018 Fellows Project: A Toolkit for Creating a More Equitable Future

The Institute for the Future (IFTF) is tackling the super-wicked problem of global inequality with a new Equitable Futures Toolkit for community groups, policymakers, and futurists. The toolkit forms the centerpiece of a week-long sprint to reinvent our economic systems with new visions and anticipatory policies that can build a more livable future for everyone.

The Equitable Futures Toolkit starts from the premise that today’s solutions need to be grounded in extraordinary visions of the future. They need to take into account past and present forces that are reshaping human society today as well as the first, second, and third-order consequences of any solutions society might propose.

“Any future-ready solution needs to start with systematic futures thinking,” says toolkit author Tessa Finlev. “Only when we’ve explored a range of future possibilities and worked across sectors and their stakeholders to anticipate the unexpected and interlocking consequences of these possible futures are we ready to start designing for equity.”

Nodes Around the World

Learn about the nodes that committed early on to being a part of the Equitable Futures Week movement and how they envision a more equitable future in 2030, in our blog posts.

  • Visions from Nodes in Oakland, Oaxaca, Sudan, and Colombia!
  • Visions from Nodes in San Francisco, the East Bay, New Mexico, and Atlanta!

Throughout Equitable Futures Week in 2019, IFTF scanned Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for new more #EquitableFutures. The more we put out into the world, the bigger this moment will become.
