Melina Uncapher

Dr. Melina Uncapher is the CEO and Co-Founder of the Institute for Applied Neuroscience, a nonprofit dedicated to translating research into real world impact.
Melina is a Stanford and University of California trained neuroscientist with over a decade of experience in conducting field-leading neuroimaging research on how humans learn and remember, and how they pay attention to the world. She is an Assistant Professor at UCSF, leading the educational neuroscience efforts of the cognitive neuroscience division in the Department of Neurology.
Since 2010, she has been conducting applied neuroscience research at Stanford, funded by the MacArthur Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. As a MacArthur Scholar, her work guides lawmakers in evidence-based practices for memory-related issues in the criminal justice system, such as whether neuroimaging technology can determine whether an eyewitness is accurately or falsely recognizing a witness, or whether it can detect concealed memories. Her NIH-funded work investigates the impact of media multitasking on the brain. She was recently appointed to the editorial board of Journal of Science & Law.
