When Everything is Media: The Future of Communications and Technology
IFTF invites Technology Horizons program members to join us for our spring Immersion and research retreat, When Everything is Media: The Future of Communications and Technology on June 14-16 in Palo Alto, California.
What does ‘Everything is Media’ mean?
Always-on smartphones were just the beginning …
We’re entering an era of profound connectivity: networked pillows, smart displays on reusable bottles, and toys that deliver AI into the hands of children. Everything around us will produce data, use data, and turn that data into rich and compelling media on every imaginable interface. Connectivity in every moment of our lives won’t just lead to ‘big data’. It will lead to a world in which media experiences—engaging, compelling interactions—can be found in every moment of our lives, and with surprising new interfaces.
This coming world is full of conversations between devices, sensors, algorithms, and us. From Mass Media to Social Media to our yet-unnamed emerging landscape, this decade represents a tremendous shift in how media is created, distributed, and consumed. Understanding the foundational technologies and new experiences that will emerge from this new world is pivotal for organizations in every industry. How we learn, purchase, govern, connect, move and think will all change.
Technology Horizons program members will join us as we dissect and investigate a world in which ‘everything is media’. We’ll plumb the depths of the technologies that make this environment possible, examine signals that herald its coming, and tease out the valuable insights and early steps organizations can take to prepare for this world.
