"At the recent Technology Horizons Spring Exchange, I forecasted that the "bionic man" may finally become a reality in the next few decades. This month's issue of Popular Science surveys the state-of-the-art in prosthetic limbs and also looks at current research to create truly lifelike artificial limbs. Developing "real" bionics directly controlled by brain signals, as envisioned by science fiction authors for decades, is a necessarily transdisciplinary challenge at the intersection of intentional biology, neuroscience, electrical engineering, computer science and mechanical engineering.
