The Globalization of Paola Monzillo
During a recent visit to Montevideo, Uruguay, I was struck by an underground exhibit at the SUBTE gallery of sculptures, collage, drawing, painting and illustration by Paola Monzillo.
Having made many efforts in my own work to convey my experiences and perceptions of globalization, I found hers to be particularly touching and provocative, while at the same time playful and personal.
Her website has great photos of her latest works, which are most certainly worth a gander for anyone interested in rethinking visually how the patterns of globalization—travel, transport and flows of products and culture—make our traditional maps seem so quaint and organized.
