Superstruct: Thousands Playing—Are You?
There have been lots of exciting developments surrounding Superstruct since its launch earlier this month. Thousands of people have setup game profiles—over 5,500 as of October 27—creating over 442 superstructers! You'll be happy to know this participation has extended humans' survival horizon from 2043 to 2048!!
Just last week, a Superstuct Meet-up took place at the IFTF offices in Palo Alto. The party brought together spirited players and newcomers--one couple traveled from Oregon--to create 'instant superstructures' and to take photos on and around University Avenue while players carried out special '2019' missions.
To help channel and capitalize on this enthusiastic participation, Ten-Year Forecast Program Director, Kathi Vian, would like to see more corporate involvement with the game. "Superstruct is a forecasting experiment. Like any good study, we want to draw on as large a data sample as possible. More companies and institutions participating will help us accomplish this objective."
If for some reason you haven't had a chance to begin playing Superstruct, there's still plenty of time. On her Avant Game blog, Superstruct designer and Ten-Year Forecast member, Jane McGonigal, explains how newcomers can quickly get up to speed with the game. "Each week, our Superthreat guides publish highlights of the most important ideas, the most dramatic stories, and the most ingenious superstructures… think of it as a whirlwind tour of the future." You'll find these weekly 'updates' on each of the 5 Superthreat pages.
Bottom line, don't wait another day if you or your organization plan on playing Superstruct...2019 will be here sooner than you think (November 17th to be exact—the day the game closes!).
