Office 2.0 Conference...should you care?
"
It seems a lot of folks are adding the tag "2.0" to the end of a word to make it the "new, new thing". Examples are numerous and include: Lunch 2.0, Bowling 2.0, Web 2.0, Where 2.0, When 2.0, Internet 2.0 (acutally...Internet2). And today brings us Office 2.0, which is a conference.
Upon further examination, I like what I see. In the description of Office 2.0, we find this:About the eventImagine a computer that never crashes, or [never] gets infected by a virus. Imagine a computer onto which you never have to install any application, and which [the] hard drive never fails. Imagine a computer that follows you wherever you go, be it at school, at work, abroad, or back home. This computer does not exist today, but it will in the future, and this future might be closer than you think.
The first Office 2.0 Conference is organized by IT|Redux and brings together Office 2.0 companies, early adopters, investors, industry analysts, and journalists. The goal is to collectively build the foundation for Office 2.0. The event will address strategies for sparking its mainstream adoption, as well as identify applications and target markets for future solutions. Most importantly, it will be an opportunity for like-minded people to meet and network with an elite group of visionaries and industry leaders.
HP and SAP are the only two large tech companies listed in the speaker section, with the majority coming from the start-up community. Of interest, note that EVERY speaker (so far) has a blog. This is the first time I have seen blogs listed alongside presenters. Do you have a blog yet?
