More on BeWell Mobile Technology
Several weeks ago, I blogged about some health-related apps that have been developed for the iPhone. One was called BeWell Mobile. I had reason to visit the company's website yesterday, and decided to add a bit more information. Here's a screen shot that will give you a sense of how this SF-based company sees itself playing in the mobile health space.
The press release for the Award for Healthcare Innovation notes that BeWell is participating in a couple of studies about the use of mobile techology to improve patient health.
In a pilot study with the San Mateo (CA) Medical Center, BeWell is demonstrating how asthma-suffering teenagers can control their chronic care conditions through cellphone technology and avoid emergency room (ER) visits. To date, patients and their families have been successful in utilizing cellphones for monitoring and reporting their symptoms and taking medication in compliance with prescribed action plans. There have been no reported ER visits since the program’s inception, a dramatic departure from the norm of 25 hospitalizations per 10,000 children aged 0-14 for asthma-related illness.
BeWell is also taking part in a five-year physical activity measurement study conducted by Kaiser Permanente's Division of Research and funded by the National Cancer Institute.
Peter Boland, who was involved with Texting4Health, is the biz dev director for the company.
