COUNTERFACTUAL CUISINE: A night with the Center for Genomic Gastronomy
Imagining different food futures is important—but what if we could experience them?
Join IFTF's Food Futures Lab for our next Edible Futures event, featuring artists from the Center for Genomic Gastronomy. We'll explore a selection of their recent publications as well as a series of food experiences created by the artists to compliment Institute for the Future’s newest food futures forecasts. IFTF will also present an introduction to three approaches to thinking about the future of food experiences to inspire all food designers to become future food designers.
The menu of food experiences and light snacks includes:
- The LOCI Food Lab, where guests explore ‘bite-sized bioregionalism’ by identifying the attributes of the food system that are important to them
- A selection of food future canapés drawn from the Planetary Sculpture Supper Club and Food Phreaking projects
- A recombinatorial cocktail
Forecasting Future Food Experiences
This public event kicks off our 2016 research workshop to forecast the design tools, choices, and principles for transforming food experiences in the 21st century. The following day, October 13, we will host a cross-industry workshop for our Food Futures Lab members for a deep dive into our new research and toolkit. The Center for Genomic Gastronomy
The Center for Genomic Gastronomy is an artist-led think tank launched in 2010 that examines the biotechnologies and biodiversity of human food systems. Their mission is to, map food controversies, prototype alternative culinary futures and imagine a more just, biodiverse & beautiful food system. They have documented organisms and environments manipulated by human food cultures in Asia, Europe and North America, collaborating with scientists, chefs, hackers and farmers. The Center's work has been published in WIRED, We Make Money Not Art, Science, Nature and Gastronomica and exhibited at the World Health Organization, Kew Gardens, Science Gallery Dublin and others.
