IPTV Set to Launch in South Korea
Korea is moving full-steam ahead into the world of IPTV early in 2007, now that a tussle over regulatory authority has been resolved, according to a recent article in the Korea Times:
The Ministry of Information and Communication and the Korean Broadcasting Commission have recently wrapped up a long-standing turf war over the protocol.
As IPTV falls in the gray area between telecommunications and broadcasting, the two authorities had confronted each other regarding which side would regulate the business.
However, they decided to mend fences fast and even agreed to jointly launch pilot runs of IPTV later this year. Presently, processes are underway to designate consortiums that will carry out the trials.
