Conferences - 91% of Footprint is Attendee Air Travel
Brian Overington, a client of ours at Research Triangle Foundation, forwarded this from the folks at CarbonTrust.org
Thanks for getting back in touch to take a look at the carbon footprint of the conference. You’ll see that just over 91% of the emissions are from the roundtrip flights – this is typical of nearly all conferences that we offset and shows the importance of cutting back on flights when possible. However, when flights can’t be avoided, that’s where we come into play.
It’s good that we have plenty of anticipation time for you to figure out how you’d like to proceed with the event offset. Some people choose to sponsor some while incorporating a portion into the registration fee, others make the entire offset payment, while others include 100% into the registration. This far out, the most important thing to note is that while we expect our price of $10/metric ton to be stable enough to maintain for the next year or so, we cannot guarantee that as the price of carbon on the market fluctuates and depending on when we source tons, the cost to us will vary.
