Calculating Carbon with Dopplr
Dopplr now not only tracks your trip, but helps you calibrate your guilt. If we can get everyone to use this, we could not only keeps track of each other, but also get a sense of our organizational carbon footprint.
One of Dopplr's founding principles was to give travellers a way to understand
the carbon impact of their travels. Now we've launched a tool that can
calculate the carbon you use on every trip you make.

The calculator uses technology from AMEE, an organisation that provides "a neutral, open platform for measuring the 'Carbon-Footprint' of anything,". You can find out more about AMEE here:
Thanks to AMEE, all you need to do is tell Dopplr where you're going and how you will travel (by plane, train, or car). We work out the carbon footprint for the trip and display it to you on your profile page, as kilograms of CO2 burned
monthly and annually. A total for all your trips is shown at the bottom of the chart.
Your carbon profile is your own private data, but you can share it with your fellow travellers on Dopplr if you wish.
Why are we doing this?
Because we think a lot of people who travel frequently would like to know this information, but don't have an easy way to get hold of it. Once you have a clear view of your own carbon footprint, you can take steps to reduce it if you see fit.
Also, by aggregating carbon data over time, we can analyse trends and patterns throughout the Dopplr community. It might help us find ways to further optimise travel for individuals and groups in the long term, and further reduce carbon emissions.
