Four Daniels
Composed by Daniel Berkman

“Four Daniels” is an experiment in volumetric filmmaking as part of our research into reality capture technologies. IFTF’s Emerging Media Lab collaborated with San Francisco based composer, Daniel Berkman, to create this four part musical performance rendered as a 3D volumetric point-cloud. Daniel was captured performing the four parts of this composition (cello, guitarlele, kora, and Handsonic percussion pad) using a DSLR video camera and Kinect depth sensor. The volumetric point clouds were processed and rendered using Scatter NYC’s amazing DepthKit software. The piece is rendered in browser here using three.js. We have also created a room-scale VR version of this piece for Vive that allows you to walk around and through the point clouds.
