Speakers
Alexander Grey
Alexander is a co-founder, system designer, algorithm designer, and patent author at Somaxis. He received his B.Sc. from Lehigh University in Molecular Biology, and has worked as a Failure Analysis engineer for ICs and PCB assemblies, and as an engineering Product Manager for medical-grade electrophysiology systems. He has been involved with biosensors, signal processing, and algorithm creation for the past 10 years, and has authored patents in these fields. He has spoken at Quantified Self and at TED : NY. He is actively involved with self-tracking and life hacking. He enjoys playing classical guitar, strength training, reading (physical) books, and has certifications in Massage and Acupressure.
Mima Geere
Mima, cofounder of ResultCare and a physician who completed her residency at UCSF in laboratory testing, ran into the same problem again and again during her training: physicians were bombarded with pressures from taking care of their patient, making the right diagnosis and treating them appropriately all the way to transferring them to a different facility, taking care of their nutrition and wellness needs and dealing with their insurance claims and reimbursement issues. Seeing the burdens on her colleagues, Mima was moved to try to make changes to healthcare that would enable - not further burden - her fellow providers. Thus was the birth of her first company ResultCare. She is driven to prevent the compromise the excellence of the healthcare profession and practice the US in exchange for cost management and believes technology can play a big role in helping disrupt things in the right way.
Frank Chen
Frank is a software developer at Amazon Web Services, where he works on an unreleased product. Prior, Frank was at Sandia National Labs, where he researched the visualization and analysis of very large datasets. Frank received a M.S. in Computer Science focused in Human-Computer Interaction from Stanford, where he focused on design and psychology. With the Stanford Prevention Research Center, Frank researched and developed mobile interventions based on behavioral theories. He prototyped Tiny Habits and worked in the Persuasive Technology Lab with BJ Fogg. Frank wrote a Master’s thesis (advised by Eric Hekler, Abby King, BJ Fogg, and Scott Klemmer) on the design of health messages in exergaming to improve health outcomes. Frank will discuss the results and design implications, particularly related to the potential utility of focusing less on gamifying health behaviors but instead “healthifying” games by highlighting the dual purpose of exergames to be both a game and exercise.
Raphael D’Amico
Raph is an interaction designer, strategist and prototyper currently applying his decade old obsession with behavior change as a member of the Jawbone UP team, which he joined as part of the acquisition of Massive Health, where he was leading the design of its next consumer health product. Raph has spoken about user experience and behavior change at the GLS Conference, Habit Design SF and the Design Research Conference. Raph holds a Master of Design from the IIT Institute of Design, but he would tell you he has learnt just as much co-founding a hip-hop record label, performing improv in Chicago, raising money for mid-market private equity funds and getting his B.S.c in Economics at the London School of Economics. In his spare time, he makes, writes about and is the co-creator of a podcast about his first love: indie games.
Dr. Cory Kidd
Dr. Kidd is the founder and CEO of Intuitive Automata, a company creating social robots to help with long-term behavior change. Based on his work at the MIT Media Lab and Boston University Medical Center, IA has developed an AI platform based on the psychology of relationships and behavior change. The applications are delivered through an interactive robot, as Dr. Kidd's research has showed that a robot is much more effective than a screen-based interaction at engaging people over the long term and at conveying information.
Format
+TECH is like a meeting of the minds meets happy hour, reminiscent of the scientific salons of bygone days. In a fun and casual atmosphere, 5 experts give Ignite talks: 5 minutes, 20 slides, 15 seconds per slide. At Health+Tech, the talks focused on one or a type of technology that will change the landscape of health and wellness in the next decade.
