"On October 15, 2003, China successfully launched its first person, Yang Liwei, into space and announced its intention to go to the moon. Earlier in the year, the U.S. manned space program suffered the loss of a crew on the space shuttle Colombia. Neither of these events is commercially significant in the near term, and yet they may have set in motion the global dynamics for the commercialization of a new generation of technology--one in which space information is more important than rocket power.
