"The Greenhorns" doc explores young American farmers
Building on the momentum of a series of high profile movies confronting the often appalling practices of food production in the US including Food, Inc. and Fast Food Nation, a new team of filmmakers is in the process of bringing audiences a fresh and much more optimistic take on the topic.
The Greenhorns is setting out to chronicle a new generation of young farmers in the US that have decided to do things differently. Both as heirs to family farms and urbanites gone rural, the protagonists of the film are exploring the limits of organic agriculture, more humane animal raising (and slaughtering), and how to make a living doing it on small and large scales.
The Greenhorns website offers not only a preview of the film, but also a "Guide for Beginning Farmers" and some interesting mapping and social networking features in development. The filmmakers are currently seeking funding to finish the film.
