Join IFTF for Co-Creating the Future of Our City: Cultural Prosperity in Oakland
September 27 at 6:30 pm in Oakland!
Cities are where we face the future first. How will we shape the #FutureOfOurCity?
Institute for the Future joins together with Ashara Ekundayo, Co-Founder/CCO at Impact Hub Oakland, and OurCity for Co-Creating the Future of Our City: Cultural Prosperity in Oakland.
As our cities transform, we need to look to 21st century heroes of cultural prosperity. These are people who are not following traditional textbook approaches to economic development. Too often such approaches focus on building up bureaucratic institutions and infrastructures. While these are often necessary, traditional economic development usually underestimates the role of individuals and culture in catalyzing change. Culture is not something economists and development professionals are comfortable talking about and it is not something that you can easily measure. In fact, culture might be the most important factor in creating change right here in Oakland.
Some of the culture and thought leaders who will be joining include:
- Peggy Moore, Restorative City/MooreForOakland
- Gino Pastori-Ng, Youth Hub Oakland
- Saqib Keval, The People's Kitchen
- Binta Ayofemi, PARK
- Marina Gorbis, Institute for the Future
- Ray Boyle + Jake Levitas, OurCity.Is
- Jose Corona, City of Oakland
- Deanna Van Buren, Designing Justice + Designing Spaces
- Lance Coleman, Playola/ZooLabs
- Chris Chatmon, Oakland Unified School District
