IFTF Congratulates GOOD 100's Nic Weidinger
Earlier this year, GOOD Magazine honored IFTF researcher and designer Nic Weidinger in the 2014 GOOD 100, a list of 100 people who embody what it means to be a global citizen in 2014. GOOD chose Nic for bringing hands-on learning and problem solving to students around the world with WikiSeat, which uses furniture design to explore the possibilities of new teaching methods for science, mathematics, literature, and more.
Starting with Nic's three-prong Catalyst, students can make an unlimited number of chairs out of a host of different materials they find anywhere. Nearly 9000 students and makers around the world have made chairs with the WikiSeat system, and many classrooms are bringing their work into local art galleries and community spaces.
Nic's open source, experiential learning project captures much of what our research on the future of learning and maker learning shows—that learning is moving from episodic to continuous, from lecture halls to collaborative spaces, and from assigning to enticing self-directed learning.
Knowing Nic as a friend, colleague, and futures thinker, I'm betting he also has what it will take to be a global citizen in 2024.
Join Nic and IFTF at the Good 100 Event!
Nic will present his work at the GOOD 100 San Francisco celebration on Thursday, June 26. Find out details and register now for the event. We hope to see you there!
