I stumbled upon a blog entry that discusses research by some Spanish scientists that indicates that ordinary CD players could be adapted to serve as home health monitoring systems. "[The] technology could be used for tests ranging from the measurement of environmental toxins to at-home disease diagnosis and even laboratory-based testing."
